Random Prediction #1

Sometimes I like to make random predictions. Here is one of them.

Civil oppression will get worse, and then destroy itself.
As surveillance, and paramilitary measures against civil disobedience become stronger in the western world, governments are increasingly building a system they cannot legitimately control and cannot get away with. Indefinite detention, unmanned domestic spy drones, covert surveillance of activist groups, overt militarisation of and brutality from law enforcement agencies, indiscriminate flouting/selective enforcement of law. All these things are uncontrollable powder kegs. I suspect things will get a little worse before simply imploding. I doubt any western government these days has the stones to walk the walk too far.
